I noticed a wind farm during my flight yesterday, and decided to go down for a closer look at the spinning wind turbines in farmland of Lee County, Illinois.

  • Nice Adam!!!

  • Sorry i just heard you mention that the ones in the horizon, those are the Mendota Hills windfarm. Those are much smaller.

  • This farm your looking at is actually GSG windfarm, with 40 g87 2megawatt turbines. The one with the crane by it is W2 and it got the generator replaced. I actually did the repalacing myself. Mendota HIlls is actually northeast of the farm, about 10 miles. Cool video from the top, maybe someday you can take me up there and I will take you up a turbine.

  • This is great! Thanks for the video. Maybe next time you can fly over Lee, IL. There's another 160 being built near Tower Road in Lee and Dekalb Counties in Illinois. FPL, Florida Power and Light. There is also Irish Wind partners in the area. The Mendota Hills Gamesa Company is from Spain. The towers are about 200 feet at the hub, and originally were 800 to 900 kw towers. some have failed and were replaced with a slightly larger generators. There are 400 foot wind machines near Sublette, IL.
