Labor Secretary Solis Talks Auto Industry and Her Chevy Equinox

Most cabinet secretaries arrive at official functions in massive black SUVs. Labor Secretary Hilda Solis, however, picked out a Chevy Equinox -- and discussed American automobile manufacturing this morning at a Monitor breakfast.

On Tuesday, August 31, 2011, U.S. Labor Secretary Hilda Solis joined the Monitor Breakfast for a conversation with reporters.

Secretary Hilda L. Solis was confirmed as Secretary of Labor on February 24, 2009. Prior to confirmation as Secretary of Labor, Secretary Solis represented the 32nd Congressional District in California, a position she held from 2001 -- 2009. In the Congress, Solis' priorities included expanding access to affordable health care, protecting the environment, and improving the lives of working families. A recognized leader on clean energy jobs, she authored the Green Jobs Act which provided funding for "green" collar job training for veterans, displaced workers, at risk youth, and individuals in families under 200 percent of the federal poverty line.

Hyundai, Kia, Honda, Toyota all make a large percentage of their cars sold in the USA in the USA. This dumbass, in order to "make a statement", goes out and buys a Chevy that is made in Canada.

This is the head of the department that is suing boeing for opening a plant in the U.S. because it is non labor. Is being stupid a prerequisite for being in Obamas cabinet.

really whats so bad about buying a canadian made vehicle? we're all one big team here, canada is struggling with labour issues just as much as america is, if a canadian buys an american made vehicle, we feel proud of ourselves knowing that we have helped boost the economy not just for us, but for our allies and neighbors to the south... as for mexican and japaneese built vehicles, they can go to hell. the automotive industry is a staple of the north american economy and it should stay that way.
