I thought I'd try my hands at interpreting the **inspired** bass line that Paul McCartney laid over George Harrison's equally timeless "Something."
I tripped a couple of times—sorry, a little rusty! Anyway, it's good enough to play along with. I wanted to include a tick track (blinking light only)but that was not feasible since the tempo changes midway.

  • what strings are u using ??? i like the sound of the bass a lot. and I have the same bass but another sound... nice vid though

  • @TheMrMerijn Thank you. The strings are Fender Super Bass 45/100. As far as the sound, you know... between the compression and EQ (pre and post), you're never going to have 2 bass guitars that will sound the same (please also note that this is not being played through a bass amp ). But, this is, really, a gem of an instrument — excellent choice! :)

  • Fuck them all!

You played better than the vast majority of the planet could manage.

Paul is a bit special, though. :-)

  • @jc333jc Thank you!:)

  • You get a great sound out of that bass. Would like to hear how it would sound if you played the line straight.

  • @crustyanj Thank you. Without the couple of (real time) steps it might perhaps be louder at moments due to the lack of compression. Plus, you have the EQ... You know, now that you mention it, I too wonder how it would sound... I've been playing with this set up since 1980 :)

  • @THEVOVO Why don't you show us how it's done?

  • @TheMrMerijn no ofenses but i hate this sound

  • not ' three'. I meant ' the'.

  • You come in for some he's heavy criticism! Ok, it isn't exactly right but it's not far off! Paul recorded a complex, busy and perfectly executed bass line which few people emulate in three numerous covers of Something. You've done a good job! I presume that the people here who call your playing crap or use similar superlatives are teenagers, as they tends to talk in extremes and don't allow the nuances of speech and the many grades of playing that may sit between total crap and total brilliance!
