Me & Sunflower
This is my first drum along video, sorry about the sound quality, the only mic used is the small condenser mic on my digicam and any cymbal crash just made the auto leveller on the mic turn down, that's why some of the kit sound comes & goes :(
When I first viewed this I couldn't hear the track so I experimented with adding a MP3 track over the video in Movie Maker, after a lot of trial & error it seems to just about fit together.
This isn't perfect, I miss a few drum fills later on & my stick grip looks suspect... (must try harder)
My kit is an original George Hayman 'Vibra Sonic' (1969) that I've been restoring over the last year or so, thanks for watching.

  • Nice! Where did u get that Hayman from? And how much? I have a vintage Premier.

  • A friend bought it in Brighton 1995, played it a bit then stored it in a damp shed (not good) he needed some cash so I gave him £300 for it. Luckily had top & bottom heads still on so that protected the insides, the chrome was rusty, I took them all to bits & cleaned everything, the snare lifter is very worn, i need to do some work on that.

  • hey, im playing the exact same kit! it gets out of tune though very quickly. are there any modifications on your kit? what heads do you use?

  • hi, this kit was in a sorry state when I got it, all the chrome was rusty, hadn't been used for years. I bought a pair of new wooden bass drum hoops cos the old ones were warped & kept slipping off the heads. I fitted Evans G1 heads on toms, I added the black vinyl circles to help dampen them. Bass drum has an Evans 'EQ1' head. Toms & BD sound great, the pain is the snare drum, the snare lifter is very worn & is forever going loose, also it goes out of tune v quickly :(

  • hi, thanks for your reply! i also have the "out of tune" problem, especially with the high tom. my snare is not a hayman. i got rid of the tom holding system for the high tom and put it on a snare stand instead. this way i could also get rid of the massive attachment to the bassdrum. i still have the original hoops on them and i suspect them to be a little out of shape, i guess its time to get some new ones. i would never sell this kit though, i love it! keep on rocking, looks very relaxed :)

  • Oh yes, I'll keep mine too, but not sure how much to repair or replace! I use the Hayman bdrum on my other vids with James, but I use my trusty old 70s Ludwig snare, cheers :)

  • I have a 1969 George Hayman which I have owned since 1972 and would never part with but has been gracefully retired for 20 odd years. Best kit in the world by far. I have a trusty Pearl Export for gigging but its not even close to the Hayman.

  • in the early 80s I had a deep RED KIT AND i USED TO PLAY THE MOUNTED tom WITH JUST A TOP SKIN no bottom .I found the Bass Drum Tom mount to be very AWKWALD FANTASTIC JAZZ KIT I also had a cheap PEARL MAXWIN snare drum METAL SHELL infact had a better sound than my CLASSIC 400 .

    SIR you Nailed that number.

CHECK OUT& share the link with other drummers to help them not be me

  • I find Steve White one of the blandest drummers around!! Hayman drums are great though i have 2 kits that i restored!! Try plastic washers under the tuning rods/screws works wonders to stop the drums de tuning xXx
