"Today" was written by New Christy Minstrels founder Randy Sparks around 1962 and became one of the best-known and best-loved of that group's many popular songs, later covered by John Denver, The Sandpipers, and many more.

Art Podell was a member of the Christys when they recorded the number in 1963 and added the distinctive guitar part heard here. This recording is from a benefit for St. Columba parish in Big Bear, California, whose vicar is the Fr. Joe Frazier of the Chad Mitchell Trio, also singing here with CMT bassist Ron Greenstein, Judy Montgomery, and Jim Moran of The Chilly Winds.

Photos in the video are from rehearsal, sound check, and the performance itself, taken by Michelle Quach.

  • Agree about the quality here. Art Podell's lead is more sincerely emotional than the NCM original.

  • a very fine rendition. Thanks for the entry.
