Powershift 2007 panel discussion
"Mountaintop removal mining is devastating hundreds of square miles of Appalachia, polluting rivers that provide drinking water to millions of Americans, and destroying a distinctly American culture that has endured for generations. This panel provides a history of coal usage in the United States, a critical look at how it is being used today, and most importantly; where we need to go from there. In addition, there will be discussion on solution to the negative health, monetary, and cultural impacts of coal mining."

Reading "Coal River" by Shnayerson, about mountaintop removal. Great-great grandfather Henry Perry Newton lived in Logan mid-1800's, so we visited it a few years ago and could feel the devastation that must have happened there. Where could I get info about the situation and its history in Logan County? Beth T.
