possibly this monkey was taken from worse captive condition like a circus where it was treated badly. releasing it to the wild would not be a suitable place for it to be.

Hi JohnDeBunkTest, there's a link to the full article, just to the right of the viewer. The general gist is that the capuchin has learned to understand the relative values of 'monkey money', and uses it to buy the largest possible amount of food.

Hi Hemanreturns, the monkey is actually using the metal objects as 'currency'. Different objects have different values (expressed as amounts of food) and the monkey has learned to use them to get the largest possible amount of food. The article (link next to viewer) explains it fully.
