Here's a rare 1966 slice of rock & roll political satire. Credited to "National Pinion Pole" (a play on the phrase "National Opinion Poll"), this song was most likely recorded by studio musicians under the supervision of producer Shel Talmy. It was released to coincide with the British national election of March 1966, but I think the lyrics are just as relevant today as they were 45 years ago!
The writing credit says "Langley/Stewart/Hockridge/Murphy/Ponte" -- the first two guys are songwriters Gerry Langley & Jimmy Stewart. Two of the others are Ian Hockridge and Tony Ponte (who both worked at Planet Records), and "Murphy" may be producer Hugh Murphy, who often worked with Talmy.
HI thanks for posting this, it brings back a lot of memories, we wrote this for a bit of a laugh sending up the politicians in the sixties, it was a great time.
