The gestation, growth and maturation of the developing gotra--seed or bodhichild; this singular bodhiseed is the auspicious vehicle wherein a Bodhisattva begins to Recollect its Undivided Awareness Power as a champion of the Buddhadharma, bearing the Light of Noble Wisdom. In its earliest stages, this Unborn-light child is vulnerable to the attacks of Mara, the Evil One. If not properly nurtured, this young spiritual fetus can easily be aborted and thus never grow to its full stature nor realize its potential (Buddha-nature). All is not lost, however, as through proper karmic alliance bodhisattvaic guardians empower the bodhi-fetus to develop an unshakable one-pointedness of awareness, that prevents the mad outflow of phenomenal obstructions from submerging the essential-self in the raging and unforgiving, pounding seas of karmadhatu. Thus, vital Bodhicitta is activated, opening the child's dharma-eye as it now sees its true nature in the realm of dharmadhatu. The sheltering cocoon is now shed as the bodhichild (now a mature Bodhisattva) unites with the suprapositional Unborn Mind of the Tathagata.

The Dharmakaya Sutra was written six years ago by Tozen with the editorial assistance of several of his dharma students (Orphea, AtiMaya, Shingi, Púsan).

An auspicious sutra revealing the maxim that "To know thyself before the arisal and cessation of all things" is the key to unlocking the mystery of the nirvanic entrance into the eternal kingdom of your own True Nature, the Dharmakaya.
