*edit* I DO NOT KNOW WHO DID THE MUSIC!! Instead of constantly asking here why not WRITE the nice folk at http://www.loc.gov/literacy/ and ask THEM, I wager you'll find out a lot faster then asking here.
In an effort to inspire young people to become lifelong learners and encourage reading, the Ad Council and the Library of Congress have launched a new series of public service advertisements (PSAs) to promote the Lifelong Literacy campaign. According to the National Institute for Literacy, success in school, and life, starts with literacy. When kids become good readers in the early grades, they are more likely to become better learners throughout their school years and beyond. While parental involvement is critical, it ultimately comes down to inspiring the individual person not only to read books but to also find their own passion about reading in all forms.
Created pro bono by The Geppetto Group, Buena Vista Home Entertainment and the Brigham Young University (BYU) Ad Lab, the new TV and web PSAs encourage children to "explore new worlds" and visit www.Literacy.gov.

You must be blind. The commercial opens with a child of Asian decent, not a white child. I know of plenty of children's books that portray Asian, Black, Hispanic, Indian, and other ethnic backgrounds. I guess you just haven't looked hard enough for them.

Ridiculous but educated - Children's literature is canonlized by elitists who only portray the white, Eurocentric perspective - where are the black kids or the stories for black kids or any other minorities??!! That is all I am saying - these books are great but they forgot about all the marginalized kids...

Are you serious? This is one of the best, if not THE best, commercials I have seen in a long time. Are you really going to sit here and judge one of the only advertisements out there ENCOURAGING children to read? The message in this commercial is that by reading a book children can expand their imagination and escape to the many incredible worlds that are portrayed in books. Obviously the commercial is going to use the most imaginative and well-known worlds to entice kids. You are ridiculous.

I think it stinks by sending the wrong message to kids. That one book or in this case destination found in one book is better than the others - Inclusion should be stressed, not exclusion...AND all the destinations mentioned are from books that are from a Eurocentric perspective...NO diversity at all...no other ethnic minority books mentioned...marginalizes all these kids...

That's cool they do these commercials to get kids to read but like they've done one with the Emerald City in Oz from The Wizard Of Oz and King Arthur's Castle in Camelot from King Arthur they should do one with The Ivory Tower from The Neverending Story and show the destination as Fantasia or Fantastica as it is called in the original storybook version of The Neverending Story.
