The Kelowna Art Gallery's Youth inSights program was conceived to engage teens, ages 16-18, in an intensive nine-month art program. The Kelowna Art Gallery will work with community groups to draw youth from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds who are considering a career in the arts. Through a series of workshops with local artists and gallery projects, teens will get an up-close look at what it is like to work as an artist. Youth will also work with their peers and Gallery staff to create meaningful experiences for other youth visiting the gallery, including peer-led tours of exhibitions and events created for teens. Participants will also have input on the future direction of the Gallery by giving feedback to the Board of Directors about ways of creating a more youth-friendly environment. The program will culminate in an exhibition of student work where they will learn about planning, installing, and marketing an exhibition.
