Discover the exciting new field of Neurobotics that lies at the intersection of Robotics and Neuroscience where robotic models and environments are used to understand the neuromuscular control and biomechanics of human limbs and, in parallel, robotic systems are developed to augment, replace and rehabilitate damaged sensorimotor functions.

Yoky Matsuoka, Ph.D, is an Associate Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at University of Washington where her research combines neuroscience and robotics to create more realistic prosthetics. A 2007 MacArthur Foundation Fellow, one of her inventions is a lifelike robotic hand which uses seven motors to power the tendons' movements of the index finger.
