  • Ralph Vaughn Williams was Charles Darwin's grand-nephew.

    When he was a child, about six or so, he was aware in some vague way that people were upset at Uncle Charles, and asked his mother why. She replied that while some people thought it took God only six days to make the world, Uncle Charles, thought it took somewhat longer, "but it is marvelous either way, isn't it, dear?"

    Science tells us the what and how; philosophy tells us why; theology tells us who.
