These houses are indeed visions of the future and they are worth every bit of investment, primarily because they will pay you back in terms of reduced energy and utility bills.

Just visit wikipedia and read up on ocean acidification. It's real.
Lower PH = death to marine and freshwater creatures. This is our food source. Our main co2 contributors to ocean acidification are Petroleum emissions to create gas for cars, cars themselves and people choosing to accept buying petroleum based cars and power generating facilities for your hydro that use huge petroleum generators as well as manufacturing facilities doing the same.
The natural choice is wind and solar.

Scientific data has proven ocean acidification as a result of elevated co2 levels, pertroleum spills for fat, lazy people to live in luxury at the expense of our earth. Your children will pay the consequences for this generation's capitalistic greed and widespred ignorance to the facts.

A true eco friendly home's goal is to create 0 co2 and use materials that had as little petroleum used in production of it's acquired goods.
This is ambitious and admirable/responsible.
So far, solar, wind, with propane as backup along with a self composting toilet are the best solutions requiring no fossil fuels to be used for hydro powering your home. Wood and other renewable or recycled materials are best.
