My friend Christine was over on Sunday and finally saw the footage of her playing at the Cambridge Folk Festival this year. She composed Le Pavot which means the Poppy and obviously all the rights to the music are hers. The instrument is a Hurdy gurdy and for those interested here's the link to Wikipedia

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurdy_gurdy

This footage was taken at the campsite but I also got some footage of her on stage. All used with her permission of course. Hope you enjoy watching this great performance on an unusual instrument. It has a rotating wheel and strings and keys making a wonderful sound. Cheers, Lesley

  • Great playing!

I hope to rock out on my new Gurdy soon.

  • I'll pass that on I'm seeing her this month. Hope you get your Gurdy soon it's such a wonderfully unique sound. Cheers, Lesley

  • I love it.

    I want a hurdy gurdy 2.

    Are they expensive?

  • It's a wonderful sound isn't it? Unfortunately because there aren't many sold and they take such a long time for specialist craftmen to make, it's reflected in a high price. It's not my hurdy so I have no idea but I know the price is steep. Hoping to persuade Christine to let me film her new tune tomorrow. Cheers, Lesley

  • To Christine a truly talented, compassionate, caring individual. She still makes my heart tremble and my stomach flutter. Was she the girl from the fox and hounds - stoke poges - to crouch end - then Redhill Royal Earlswood Hospital and finally onto Nordoff-Robbins School of Music Therapy - or am i still lost and confused.

  • I've just asked and she certainly is! So now we're both intrigued as to who you are? Cheers, Lesley

  • Oh, actually, I got my Gurdy back in mid-December but I don't have it ready to go yet (rosin and tuning). I've been a bit busy to jump right in with it.

Thinking of buying the Muskett Gurdy book in the meantime too.

    Thanks!

  • Thank you Lesley

  • I'm afraid I can't answer for Christine but I'll check and get back to you! Cheers, Lesley
