POV-Ray: Photons

Apparently I haven't uploaded one single animation with photons. So, here it is! You can see their effect in the shadow. Sorry for the shortness; I should have looped it. But I can't change the video anymore... Rendering time: 52 minutes (for 150 frames)

Is using photons the only way you know of for getting that realistic light focusing effect in the shadow?

There is also an option to use "fake caustics", but that's not realistic.

What's wrong with photons? :-)

In a previous comment, you said that photon rendering takes a while so I wondered if there were alternatives.

That's true, but you can set the quality of the photons, so you can speed it up at the cost of quality. I don't know any other alternatives :-)

Nice, that's a long render time, at what resolution did you render it?

I rendered it at 640x480, I think. Apparently photons take some time (I set their quality really high, too).
