Not half bad...for a democrat that is...lol the Valley Market if I am not mistaken, was started by the Counts or the Cartees then Boyd Blevins had a Little Giant Market. All these were in the old building next to US 60 where the parking lot is. Mr. Blevins built the building that is there now and had the old store torn down. I helped move merchise from the old store to the new one when I was MUCH younger. Dad used some of the old block from the store to build the front porch to his house.
You wrote to me THANK YOU, you said it WAS hopewell... it is gone ?? I would be eternally greatfull if you could perhaps put some x's on a screen shot of a map or something, I want to trace these steps as a kid so bad... I just got back from 2 weeks down there.. Ill have to look you up one of these trips.
That was the Hopewell tunnel you are referring to. There is about eight tunnels. However, the last tunnel is before Hitchins and Grayson and there is no other tunnels after Grayson going to Webbville. Webbville is the end of the line.
when i was a kid there was still tracks in WEBBVILLE and the old gate house ( im 42 ) but this tunnel I could have sworn was somewhere between Hitchins, and grayson for sure no farther than olive hill, can you think of ANY tunnels this one was well preserved and HUGE as i recall, and close tot he road.. But I was on a dirt bike , so perhpas memory has faded
When I was a kid, I ran across a rail road tunnel in this general area... ANy know of a big rail tunnel you can 9 could ? ) walk thru some where in the grayson webbville area ?
why were the mushroom mines not on here? you cant talk about landmarks of western carter county without going to the mushroom mines. not to mention rayburns store at the bottom of the hill. that place has been open for like a hundred and ten years.lived most of my life in enterprise and soldier so i know the place pretty well.

That was the Eastern Kentucky Railway. It has been gone since the great depression in the early 1930's. The track would diamond in Hichin's.
