  • I absolutely agree with you cattleman, the video is fantastic as all Grzegorz' . The music is so evocative... and the flappers images too!

  • Thank you Masquerade, I do not deserve all these compliments. I am happy, so many friends of us enjoy that music and all those photographs from the past. Thanks God, photocamera was invented early enough to give for us visions of Berlin, Madrid, Warsaw, Casablanca or New York...

  • I've always loved the way the second vocalist comes in ("BECAUSE YOU WENT AWAY..."). That and the finale.

  • I cannot exactly identify the elements, but this Goldkette recording crams a lot of great features into only slightly over three minutes. There is such a large amount of great music on YT, but I will tell you that I have just played this piece through three times running, just to listen to what I think is some of the best popular music sounds ever put on wax. For me, this recording alone puts Goldkette among the greats of his era.

  • One of the sad truths of this era is that some of the greatest musicians and bandleaders had business sense in inverse ratio to their musical skills. Considering this recording was made it 1926, it marks Goldkette as one of the real pioneers. Yet, from what has been noted on other YT postings, it appears that Goldkette never really reaped much in the way of rewards for a lifetime of musical achievements. He is just one of many like that.

  • Recorded on April 23, 1926; the vocal duo are Carl Mathieu {tenor} and James Stanley {bass}.

  • You have the talent to combine all these elements beautifully and the generosity to share them with us. This is the reason why you deserve my sincere admiration!

  • my uncle gave me a copy of this when i was just a kid....one of my favorites. i have found more copies since then and they are on the victor scroll...must have been a transition period for the label...what a great vid. the other side is such fun . thanks so much.

  • Me thinks those mostly invisible men are also lonesome and sorry. Note that at 2:36 the lady turns away from HIM.

  • Opinion of Fibbing is typical provocation, it is a psychological trick. In reality music and pictures are excelent. This song could be used as special letter between people in love.
