The subject matter of this project is the connections between the material and the ideal. In "Life cycle analysis," the material development of a paperclip is explained in detail. The presentation of simple facts that describe the massive amounts of energy and resources involved in this process is intended to provide a shock that will lead the viewer to consider reusing so many of the everyday products that are thrown away with little
thought. Marie-Jose writes, "It [the icon] requires hermeneuts of
transubstantiation of all sorts, because life arises from matter.
Iconophile art is always a Eucharistic procedure that transforms matter into a living image and a redemptive gaze."(189) In accordance with Mondzain's thought, the amalgamation of matter and physical energy, which is the paperclip, is intended to take on a Eucharistic quality through the examination of process. The paperclip becomes both a material object and an
embodiment of the ideal. The presentation of the material process behind the product is intended to inspire or fuel the desire for an environmental utopia. Writing on Tarkovsky's films Mondzain states, "...the issue he deals with concerns the passage from passion to compassion, that is, to the imaginal affection that takes us back to similitude with those whom we do
not resemble."(181) Likewise, the intention of this film is that the material that inspires the ideal will reflect back onto the material world.
The material then is compressed in a video which deals with the iconic process in its making. Video compression : At its most basic level, compression is performed when an input video stream is analyzed and information that is indiscernible to the viewer is discarded. AN icon is created

  • PAYP PERR KLIPPPPP!

  • 18-45. Set forth to them the similitude of the life of this world: It is like the rain which we send down from the skies: the earth's vegetation absorbs it, but soon it becomes dry stubble, which the winds do scatter: it is (only) Allah who prevails over all things.

  • wewt thank's for puting my user name on modzain on runescape.

  • you forgot to mention the part where we throw them away and they stay in the landfill.

this was pretty boring... i can't believe i sat through it all.

  • agreed. the computer voice makes it very difficult to listen to!

  • Highly suggest the producers take this important topic and add some production value - like a human voice and other cheap video effects to make the next version easier to listen to.... and share. I dont plan to until it is.
