Christian, the dawg, and me backpacking on the Shawnee Backpack Trail in the Shawnee State Forest in southeast Ohio. Christian was a machine and easily handled everything the trail had to throw at us - 93 degF heat, 1000% humidity with dead-still sauna-like air, brutally steep non-switchbacked climbs/descents, un-maintained bushwacking trails, and tick nirvana (but he didn't really enjoy the rattlesnakes!). But I'll readily admit that the trail gave J-dawg and I a rear-end whoopin' we won't soon forget.

  • Next time go in may or October-novemberish. On the long hauls between camps become to much step off the trail and make camp, know one is going to mind believe me, no one around, lol.

Also know that humans are mobility machines and can walk about any other animal into the ground, so your dog will need more rest. Peace.

  • So...was it hot?

  • wow...it was rough, lol.lot less of a jungle right now though.

  • Gettin ready to do this trail next week.Sounds like the hills will kick my ass, lol.I'm used to fairly flat trail here in e.c. indiana.

  • There are timber rattlesnakes & copperheads in Shawnee State Forest so you have to keep the dogs from poking their noses into & under rock faces, logs, etc.

Also not a good idea to sleep outside your tent because of ticks that carry lyme disease, venomous snakes, bugs. Hike in cooler weather ?

That green tent what is it? Great video. The scout motto be prepared. I always wanted to hike there but after seeing this I will go on a canoe trip instead.

  • Liked the video and don't give up on backpacking. I'm in the process of building my dog up for backpacking. We walk a few miles each day because a dog has to be built up just like a person. Really suggest you check out this hike. Has a great campsite and is dog friendly with lots of places for water. pinckney-potawatomi trail near ann arbor michigan. bout 22 miles-

  • How's ur dog?!?! His feet feelin better?? Heading there in a month or so
