yes you can but not in high quality.

doh, it's just like any other Mac, but no disk drive. But you can sync it up with another computers drive wirlessly, or get en external disc drive

Good question. I think the student needs to know what they will be using the computer for. Just writing papers and browsing the web? Then either should be fine.

I don't think it has ever frozen on me. I use it daily.
It is one of the best machines I have ever used!
Make sure you have the system updates installed. Apple => Software Update...
