Sounds like the perfect place for it hahaha. I was looking at Super 8 projects and boy they want a lot for them! I'd be better off with a 16mm projector.
@toasteroven427 That was my concern also, as they are rather bulky and tall. And I would definitely NOT recommend the B&H Lumina II because it was nothing but problems from the moment I got it. I ended up parting it out and chucking it in the trash.
Oh that's not good! I was looking into getting one, but I heard about the bad track record they had. I'll go ahead and probably get the film screen. Finding a spot to put it when it's not in use may prove to be a bit of a challenge of though.
@toasteroven427 It's always a nice thing to have a screen to project on as opposed to a wall or bed sheet. As far as dual 8 projectors being dangerous, they can be if you feed super 8 film through it while it's set on regular 8 or vis versa. One common problem is the switch doesn't completely change from one to the other thus causing feeding issues or film damage. I have had none of these problems with my DeJUR but almost ended up destroying this Charlie Chaplin film in my Bell & Howell Lumina 2
A dual 8 would be nice to have, although I heard they can be dangerous to the film. There is a projector screen for sale here locally on Craigslist. I'm thinking about getting it.
@toasteroven427 That's how I got this projector and my DeJUR 888AZ dual 8. My grandfather's neighbor passed away and his family left them in the house for my grandfather along with many other things including a projection screen which I should have kept but didn't.
Yeah, it was sitting in the electronics shelf under some TVs, and I knew I just couldn't pass it up. Bel & Howell defiantly make some of the greatest projectors there are. My grandfather was suppose to give me it, along with their home movies from the '50s and '60s and all their old cartoons, but he can't seem to find them.
@toasteroven427 6 bucks? What a steal! The most I have seen one sell for on ebay was about $90. And as far as Bell & Howell projectors go, they're definitely one of the best known projector brands from the late 50s to the mid 70s.
I remember my grandparents showing me a Woody Woodpecker cartoon on a 1963 Bell & Howell 8mm projector. I was fascinated by the way film worked. How each film cell is a fractional movement, and when you play it, you get a movie. I wasn't able to get into film though because of how expensive some projectors are. Finding that Kodak Brownie at the Goodwill for 6 bucks was a Godsend!
@toasteroven427 Wow I actually was interested in the RCA also but it's rare to see one on ebay and like you said, they certainly don't come cheap at all. I like the Kodak Brownies anyway. The first projector I ever used was a later model Brownie when I was about 12. To be honest, I gained most of my interest in film because of that.
