Hot track from Jack Mack and the Heart Attack. "Hooray For The City" is ass-kickin', balls to the walls power funk, from one of Los Angeles' most enduring show & recording bands. The group is widely know as "The Hardest Working Band In Soul Business". Formed in 1980 by founding member, Claude Pepper, aka Jack Mack (his given name), the group has seen many changes in it's line-up over the past 30 years. This track was recorded by the original group in 1982 and consisted of:
Max Gronenthal - Lead Vocals, keyboards & guitar
Scott Chambers - Bass
Andrew Kastner - Guitar
Claude Pepper - Drums
John Berry, Jr. - Trumpet & Flugelhorn
Jim Coile - Tenor Sax
Greg Smith Baritone Sax
Bill Bergman - Tenor & Alto Sax
John Paruolo - Hammond B3, Keyboards
Lee Thornburg - Trumpet & Flugelhorn

  • Written by Max Gronenthal.....from Norfolk, Nebraska area......went off to play with 38 Special and wrote Heart Needs A Second Chance for them......currently with Grand Funk Railroad....tears the stage up when he's on it. Saw Jack Mack with him fronting the band a couple times - that band set the bar REALLY high for horn bands and lead singers.

  • @gbryan I was wondering what Max was up to these days. Thanx 4 the info! Appreciate your comment.

  • Yessss!! more please!!

  • @KEVINDAHOUSE1 I know, right? It's totally hot. There's a smokin' "live" version here on YT listed as Jack Mack and the Heart Attack at the Brandywine Club '83 for HBO Pt.2. Check it out. Thanks, Kev. Glad you liked.
