More than 22 million bore-wells have been drilled in India. Many of them have become defunct due to clogging and siltation of the cracks and fissures in the hard rock through which the bore-wells are fed. Hydro-fracturing can open up these fissures and bring back he bore wells to life. Huge capital costs - literally sunk costs- can be recovered. They will all have to be backed by artificial recharge and a minimizing of demand from the groundwater.
