The Air and Space Basic Course (ASBC) is first of many Professional Military Education (PME) courses for the Air Force Officer track. Condensing what was learned at the three active duty commissioning sources (OTS, AFROTC, USAFA), the Airman apply the leadership concepts taught on a much more theoretical and applicable setting. This course was developed to instill the core values for each newly commissioned officers and to help them identify as an Airman first, and their specific AFSC (or mos; their air force job) second.
Additionally, Air Force Doctrine is studied, and time is spent to enforce expeditionary skills for each Airmen. At the end, each ASBC student is mixed with students of the Senior Non-Commissioned Officer Academy to develop an idea exchange to become better supervisors and superintendents.
For Combat System Officers (CSO): Generally, this PME is the first of the three courses that has to be completed prior to the CSO training @ NAS Pensacola (the other two being Initial Flight Screening and USAF Water Survival Training).
