Christopher M. Stewart, M.D., Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and Director, Addictions Fellowship Program at The University of Louisville, presented "Confessions of an Addiction Psychiatrist" on February 7, 2013.
The talk focused on an increased awareness of the myths and misconceptions of addiction syndromes and their treatment and be able to list three common misunderstandings that are often conveyed to patients about addiction, being able to better approach patients with addiction using more evidence-based techniques, having a greater understanding of the use of buprenorphine in opioid dependence, and appreciating the need for safe medical detoxification and its likely effectiveness in reducing morbidity.
