An American Studio contemporary country recording from February 19, 1969, released as a single in January 1970 with " My Little Friend " on the B-side.
This Eddy Rabbitt / Dick Heard composition, the fourth single from Elvis` Memphis recording sessions, sold 600,000 copies on initial release but failed to scale the heights of previous singles, peaking at #16 in the charts.
Nevertheless, " Kentucky Rain " became Elvis` 50th gold record, and stayed on the chart for nine weeks.
In early 1970 Elvis incorporated " Kentucky Rain " into his stage act.
Live versions have come out on Elvis Aron Presley, The Live Greatest Hits, Live In Las Vegas and on FTD releases Polk Salad Annie and Writing for the King, in addition to the inevitable bootlegs.
