Diamanda Galas is one of the most talented individuals living on our planet.

Maybe I'm just really old-fashioned, but I prefer hearing Celan read this to Galas' performance. I feel that her uses of strong music and violently changing voicing actually detract from the imagery that make this poem so horrifically beautiful. She's a skilled pianist. Her piece is beautiful and I would like to hear it alone, but I had trouble even distinguishing words over the volume of the piano and through her strong voicing, and I know this poem practically by heart.

If you think that Diamanda is not talented, just listen to 'Exeloume' or, even better, 'Panoptikon'! My favorite one (here on YouTube!) is 'Tragouthia Apo To Aima Exoun Fonos Part 2' - actually that was taken from her work 'Panoptikon', which she NEVER realized on CD! Quite un-fortunately!.

I still like her, but I prefer her earlier works! By far...

Aww ! Come on ! I like Karlheinz Stockhausen and Gyorgy Ligeti but, hey, they don't make the same kind of music than Diamanda Galas. I mean, although all three are usually categorized as "contemporary classical" or "avant-garde", one may realized they never took the same path (esp. D. Galas). They never competed, plus Diamanda came after. And she never pretended to be "the new Stockhausen" or "the new Ligeti". She really had other influences (like the Greek tragedies, among others).
