Meine Meinung zum Star Trek Countdown Comic
Sorry wegen der schlechten Bildqualität beim iPhone, meine kleine IXUS kriegt's wohl nicht besser hin.

  • Not if they are in a parallel universe. As you said, just with normal time travel, that wouldn't work, Spock wouldn't be there (old Spock that is). And they never say that it's just time travel, do they? I think of it as a parallel universe.

  • every single time the timeline changes in star trek that meant the old one was destroyed. not that it still existed in a parallel universe.

why else in First Contact we saw the Earth assimilated after the Borg went back in time?

or in "yesterday's enterprise" we saw the timeline changed and they had to repair it to restore the original timeline.

    and countless other examples.

so this movie means that all the other shows never existed

  • So the old timeline isn't the most recent one anymore. So what? It's still valid for us, the viewers.

And: I don't really buy the time travel thing, I think a parallel universe makes more sense, exp. with the singularity that caused it. And then, there is no time paradox issue as well.

  • takes nothing away?

the old timeline doesn't exist anymore.

in a way this whole movie is a paradox. if vulcan never existed in the 24'th century and never made red matter, then nero would not have come back in time as a result of that black hole.

so this whole movie is one giant plothole

  • You are right though, could have been Section 31 doing that, not anticipating Nero's reaction and the technology the Romulans had hidden.

I am a Trekkie myself and I welcome the reboot, as do all the Trekkies I know. What else could they have done to make Star Trek relevant again? Why is it a problem that the old timeline is just that, an old timeline. Takes nothing away from the old stuff. It's exciting in my opinion.

  • section 31 viewed the romulans as the biggest potential enemy of the federation after the dominion war. so it makes perfect sense.

the idea of the supernova threatening "the entire universe" (exact quot from the book) is absurd.

this reboot erases all the other series from existence (except the enterprise series). that's a big problem to all trekkies

  • I don't think so. Why should Section 31 do that? The super nova would have destroyed the galaxy, as they say in the book. And the franchises needs this reboot, by going back to the original timeline, that would have killed it. Besides, I think there is already enough time travel in this storyline ;)
