The Northern Soul scene was born in the early 1960s at a club called "THE TWISTED WHEEL" in the northern city of manchester, England.
These were All-Night venues called " ALL-NIGHTERS ", the music was rare and hard to find R&B and Soul.
The dancing was serious and uneek. ( break dancers in the US did a similar style on the break in the Late 70s, but that's where the similarities end).
Other venues in Northern England started running All-Nighters, and All-Dayers and soon this Underground Northern Soul scene became away of life.
People would travel hundreds of miles to attend , which was seen as a very odd thing to do by outsiders.
Even now the Northern Soul scene is the most underground of all british counter culture and is still very much alive to day !
This is a short interpretation of the history of Northern Soul with images of clubs and dance styles ect from the Northern Soul scene.
There is so much more too it, and its a difficult subject to cover in a little under 8 minutes, especially when reaching out to those people who may know nothing or very little about Northern Soul . It truly is away of life and a life style for many people ! ...............
