What is Tawheed? and what's so important about it? This is the topic Abu Khadeejah Abdul-Wahid covers in this top-notch lecture, so please listen to it wa barakAllahu feekum.
The principle of Tawheed is the fundamental principle of Islam on which all other principles, rules and pillars are based. The aspect of Tawheed emanates from the Shahada "There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah and Muhammad is His servant and Messenger". It is this declaration that forms the dividing line between Iman (belief) and Kufr (disbelief).
Linguistically Tawheed means: To make something one, or to assert the oneness of something.
The Shari'ah definition of Tawheed: To single out Almighty God alone for worship.
Literally Tawheed means "unification" (making something one) or "asserting oneness", and it comes from the Arabic verb (wahhada) which itself means to unite, unify or consolidate. However, when the term Tawheed is used in reference to Allaah (i.e. Tawheedullaah), it means the realizing and maintaining of Allaah's unity in all of man's actions which directly or indirectly relate to Him. It is the belief that Allaah is One, without partner in His dominion and His actions (Ruboobeeyah), One without similitude in His essence and attributes (Asmaa wa Sifaat), and One without rival in His divinity and in worship (Ulooheeyah 'Ebaadah). These three aspects form the basis for the categories into which the science of Tawheed has been traditionally divided. The three overlap and are inseparable to such a degree that whoever omits any one aspect has failed to complete the requirements of Tawheed. The omission of any of the above mentioned aspects of Tawheed is referred to as "Shirk" (lit. sharing); the association of partners with Allaah, which, in Islamic terms, is in fact idolatry.
Tawheed ( Islamic Monotheism ) has three aspects :
A) Oneness of the Lordship of Allah ; Tauhid-ar-Rububiyah : To
believe that there is only one Lord for all the universe its Creator, Organizer, Planner, Sustainer, and the Giver of security, etc., and that is Allah.
B) Oneness of the Worship of Allah ; Tawheed-al-Uluhiya : To believe that none has the right to be worshiped [e.g. praying, invoking, asking for help (from the unseen), swearing, slaughtering sacrifices, giving charity, fasting, pilgrimage, etc. ] but Allah.
C) Oneness of the Names and the Qualities of Allah ; Tawheed-al-Asma was-Sifat : To believe that :
(i) We must not name or qualify Allah except with what He or His Messenger, Muhammad (peace be upon him), has named or qualified Him,
(ii) None can be named or qualified with the Names or Qualifications of Allah ; e.g. AL-Kareem,
(iii) We must confirm all of Allah's Qualification which Allah
has stated in His Book (the Qur'an) or mentioned throuhg His
Messenger ( Muhammad ) without changing them or ignoring them
completely or twisting the meanings or giving resemblance to any
of the craeted things [ e.g. Allah is present over His Throne as
mentioned in the Qur'an (20:5) :- " The Most Beneficent (Allah)
Istawa (rose over) the (Mighty) Throne " over the seventh heaven
; and He only comes down over the first (nearest) heaven to us
on the day of Arafat (the 9th of Dhul-Hijja), and also during
the last third part of the night as mentioned by the Prophet
Muhammad (peace be upon him), but He is with us by His Knowledge
only, not by His Personal-Self (Bi-Dhatihi).
Also Allah said : " There is nothing like unto Him and He is
the All-Hearer, the All-Seer " (42:11)
This Verse confirms the quality of hearing and the quality of sight for Allah without resemblance to others.
These three aspects of TAWHEED are included in the meaning of
La ilaha ill-Allah ( none has the right to be worshiped but Allah ).

do you really think if there was a manlike god he would want us to worship him? Religion is dangerous because it teaches us to think we know when we really do not know. And even more dangerously, to imagine that we can speak the will of God or even imagine what such a being might look like.
Call a mystery (being) a mystery and be done with it. There is no reason to imagine a man-like judge bc good and evil are two sides of the same coin and completely relative to individual experience.
