Originally aired on Thursday, November 8, 1990, this ABC news magazine piece features the city of Detroit and it's mayor at the time Coleman A. Young.
A highly controversial piece in Detroit at the time of its airing, part one is included here along with commericals.
I'm going to be honest. i'm not a Negro but the so call negro never had a fair chance in America and anyone who say"s different is lying to themselves and all ears who hear the words, i'm not a side taker just a realist. look at negro history in America if you call that fair then you try living in that condition rich or poor. i felt i have to write this because i'm not going to lie to myself let alone to another if you beg the differ then examine yourself and the others you inspire.

At least in the 90's Detroit was still over 1,000,000 people and still one of America's largest cities. God damn it, it's almost 700,000 today. How the hell can you go from 2,000,000 to 700,000 and not do everything you can to stop it.
I'll be done with my Fire Science/Paramedic in two years. Hopefully, even if it means my life, I can see to it that this city will be on top once again.

And sadly, 22 years later, not much has changed in Detroit. It was almost refreshing to hear the reporter say "black" and not "african-american" each time.
