7 Snare Drum Shootout!

To give you some context, I played 7 different snare drums along with Creed's My Own Prison. At the end I gave each snare drum a solo opportunity so that the listener can hear each snare drum's sonic character.

Feel free to leave comments if you love or hate different snare drums (they're not all mine, so go ahead and be honest).

YouTube tends to squash the quality of the recording, so if you would like to listen to more carefully, you can download the test here:

  • out of curiosity why are you muffling the genera dry heads? they dont seem to have any resonance to my ears

  • @Killyoudeadnstuff Just experimenting. For my mic placement it helps to kill some of the extra ringing that is more easily detected by the microphones... But you make a good point!

  • dang it, now I gotta go back and see what hobes9 said.... wait... I am hobes9

  • @hobes9 haha, yeah...I took long enough to get around to these comments didn't I? Well, that's what meeting a girl will do to you...

  • @wildbill1240 ha ha, lol. I'll see the video later, since it's not available for mobile devices

  • @NewDarkAges13 haha, glad you liked those at least :)

  • @Tracebebo I really wish I knew. It just didn't come with a placard or any indication of what series it is. It's from my church and it was purchased in the 90s...that's all I know. Sorry!

  • @hobes9 Time, money, resource-limited. I wish I could have. When you boil it down, there are just too many factors to consider and control in this experiment. So I resolved to just give each drum it's "best chance" to shine. I put the heads on them that I think sound best according to each individual drum. Sorry to disappoint though!

  • @ctrodrums It has 10 ply and a re-ring! You're welcome.
