Queensland Rail's first 160 series Interurban Multiple Unit, unit 161, arrived on Brisbane on Friday October 13 2006 for two weeks of suburban testing. Today was its first day unleashed onto the suburban network.

The units are based on the design of the Transperth B Series in Western Australia, and are built in Maryborough, Queensland. Sixteen of these are on order.

  • @welcomebackcommander - Central, Fortitude Valley (formerly Brunswick Street), Toowong and Ipswich have all been built over, and are practically underground stations now. All of Brisbane's and Perth's electric multiple units were built at Walker's in Maryborough, Queensland, and Brisbane's IMU 100s and 160s and SMU 260s have external plug doors like the Transperth B series.

  • yeh they have a underground section at central station under the city.

  • Not as good looking as the Transperth B series. I'm curious, does Brisbane have any underground sections, and do the doors pop out to open on those trains?

  • looks just bout nearly the same as the perth trains except the colour

  • YOU DON'T REALLY SEE MUCH NEW TRAINS

  • Ooh, at least 10 years! They havent really had a major overhaul as such! I can see the EMU's running in 2030!

  • why don't you move away from the train line? it was there first.

also these won't be replacing the old trains, just adding to the fleet. those EMU's (old ones) have another 10 years in them yet...

  • I live right next to train tracks... cant wait till these replace the current trains... hopefully they will find trains that can replace the REAL loud diesel trains.
