Founded in February of 2004, The Academy of Rock, a music appreciation club associated with Columbia, Missouri's David H. Hickman High School, has networked student musicians, increased the school's level of education about American music, given student bands a chance to hone their chops, and arranged unplugged shows from such luminaries as The Hold Steady, The Drive-By Truckers, Exene Cervenka, and Baby Gramps. This documentary, directed by University of Missouri student Chad LaRoche, gives you a taste of a program all high schools should offer, and places a special emphasis on the club's 5th Annual Battle of the Bands. Note: the documentary reports that the Battle ended in a tie; after a judge's addition error was discovered, the "Golden Guitar" went to Molly Trull and Anodyne.
A couple more things:
Moongarm was misidentified as Night Shift.
Also, due to a math error on the part of a judge, Molly Trull and Anodyne took first, and The Last Kings second. The (then) fourth place tie between Mega Mega and Carbon Brainchild remains.
Both the first and second place bands have been staked to $800 worth of studio time at Columbia's Red Boots Studio under the supervision of Barry Hibdon.
