My XXL was bought way back in '96 (I think!). It's serial # 96779. I've always loved it but sadly have had few occasions to really let it rip. However, here it is in all its distorted glory with a Strat behind it.

Further recording details can be read at the end of the clip.

This clip was inspired by my YouTube buddy 'ciclosonico' who indirectly reminded me that I should do this clip. Check out his excellent take on the XXL at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2aqaKfQCfo

Mick Brierley's wondrous handwound pickups can be found at http://www.brierleyguitarpickups.com.au/. Thanks Mick!

Ciao!

  • Very good video of a VERY good pedal....I have 4 of them (i just can't stop buying them on ebay!)....this pedal is the most responsive to changes in guitar volume that I"ve ever used...I don't play really dirty so I just leave it on all the time and use guitar volume to clean up...keep up the great work! Great playing too BTW!

  • @2002jdp Haha! FOUR of them!? Man, that's a lot of XXL power. I agree with you though - these are criminally unsung pedals. Worthy of much greater praise IMO. Thanks for the kind words. Cheers, BK.

  • Great reviews Burgerman, that stands for all of them. You really are an enrichment for youtube.

Love these demos, good quality, no talking.

    Thx man.

  • Thanks! That's very kind. I'll continue to strive for better viewing for you guys. Thanks for the encouragement. :)

  • i'd love to hear this through an amp... i just don't like the direct clips.

  • It is through an amp. Read the credits!

  • is true bypass ??

  • Just so people understand, the warp control is very subtle in what it does. You cannot hear a change when turning the warp knob while a note is sustaining. Set the warp to minimum for a fat lead sound. Set the warp to max for a more compressed sustaining tone. The default position is best for chord work.

  • @Ayte66 No it is not. I have had one for over 10 years and I like it. When you step on the foot switch even at minimal gain, you gain hear a slight change in your tone. Even when you try to match the tone setting on the pedal to your clean sound there is a slight change (darker). This pedal in the right hands can make even a crap solid state amp sound like a tube amp

  • @2002jdp I used to have 2 Tech 21 XXL's with a 70's Ibanez Tube Screamer and original PT9 Phaser plugged into a 100W Seymour Duncan Convertible. If I needed extra juice I'd stick a Boss OD1 pedal in the front of the chain.

XXL was by far the best pedal out of the lot, you'd get some nice out-of-phase tones from tweaking the warp controls to different positions.

Sold all the FX for $500 about 7 years ago when I went acoustic. Dumb. Dumb. Dumb.

  • is this a true bypass pedal???

  • I have that same encyclopedia :D it kicks ass! love reading it!

  • i had one of these a couple yrs ago, should've held on to it.. didnt know what i had, but i remeber i liked the sound, and this is it :)

  • great pedal
