@zetiazetiazetia He get's paid, but hell, 1, it's tough gear and 2, it's a free country.
-
why the hell is there a "how to make sausage" at the realted videos? xD
-
@Bassaholics123 If you do that, you will get cold and in cold weather you will die. NEVER use a poncho when it's wet, it will make you very cold. That's why they only wear them on hot rainy days with only a shirt under.

NIFTY
You have so many great videos, but this is one of the best.

Well the military tarps that I know of, which are to cover a BFV, would be too big for a home washer or even an industrial one. We use to just put them on the concrete, use water, soap and big brooms. If you are talking about smaller tarps or civilian ones you need to read what it says, but I doubt you are suppose to wash it in a washer.
And the tarp I described above you wouldn't want to carry it on you, very heavy for a tarp. I know of full tents lighter than that. Haha.
-
@Jerrid3 ok but what about tarps, i thought you could machine wash tarps?
-
@Bassaholics123 I think the idea was just to show how to rig a poncho shelter... If I've got one or two miles to go, I'll probably put the thing on and hike out. But folks often forget that ponchos are more than just a rain getup.

Went I went though recruit training we slept in panchos with the poncho liner attached like a sleeping bag. Also when I went though the jungle warfare course in NTA ,oki japan they taught us to make a raft outta 2 alice packs ( with waterproofed gear inside) and a poncho. They are also great for litters to carry wounded and to gather water. An all around good peice of gear.
-
why carry tent stakes for no longer than what they take to make??
-
Good stuff. Thanks.

If it is good weather and no mosquitos you can just use the poncho as a hammock. I never have personally done that but I have heard you can. Besides we use to carry simulated wounded on it like a stretcher so if it can hold a 200lbs man and some of his military gear, why not a a regular person?
-
@Jerrid3 ya that does make sense,if your to far from your car and its getting late i could see making a shelter out of it.
-
A military store. Just make sure the quality is good if buying used. A lot of people use to wash their ponchos in the washer because they are lazy or pressed for time. NEVER machine wash them. It loses it's water repellent qualities. I heard you can spray it with some thing, but why bother with the wear and tear? Buy a brand new one or a very good used one.
-
I would say because you would still feel the dampness and still can get chilled to the bone. Plus you can not really cover your self and your gear that well depending on the size of it. But since he is resting he put it up. Do NOT machine wash them when they get dirty. They lose their waterproofing. That particular poncho (military) is made for many purposes and you can even link more than one to it with buttons. Linking more than one makes even better tents for over night.

love that poncho!!! used it in the military!! its quicker to set up with bungee cord, geat vid having flashback 30 days of straight rain on that thing!
-
good job, thanks for sharing.

A poncho can be used as a tarp to make shelter. Can a tarp be worn like a poncho?
-
Nice vid....what's the best source for the military ponchos?
-
WHAT PONCHO IS IT???? I want a miitary poncho nylon with gromet holes, Theres so many knockoffs out there online. Where can I get one thats milspec and not one of those HEAVY pvc ones but a current military one. SOME ONE HELP!!!
-
nice vids man !!!
-
Correct. Tie a knot in the grommet on each side of the peak and it does keep the rain water from wicking along the line into the shelter. I learned that in JOTC, FT Sherman, Panama.
-
great video with great info... one thing that i do is i carry one poncho like u said but i also carry a small camo or brown tarp(6x8 or 8x10 ft.) i personaly like the tarp better for a shelter... the shelter gives u more room for equitment and mabey a fire.

I carry a silnylon lightweight backpackers poncho about 3 ounces. Very nice.

I see a lot of Maxpedition gear in your videos. Are they paying you to advertise or do you just like their stuff?
