when you mix medium into your water you can insure that there is a body that will help adhere the pigment on the board while still achieving very watery glazes. I mix Stevenson' s Acrylic Matte Medium, Liquitex's Slow Dri Blending Medium, and lots of water. I also suggest using Golden's Soft Gel Gloss to get some more body into with your paint while still getting those nice translucent effects.

To ensure that the pigments of your acrylic soft/heavy bodied paints to your primed canvas/board, you may want to consider mixing your water with a medium. Think about what acrylic paints are made of: a latex body and dry pigments. When you cut your paint with water the pigments will separate from the diluted latex body. With excessive usage of water you might run the risk of having only pigment sitting on the board, even with professional quality paint like Golden. However...
