One of the most worrying things about this for me is the power it gives celebrities. Literally hundreds of thousands of people will adopt stances due to what a certain celebrity thinks. Celebrities are just fallible people, like the rest of us. Also, the way people identify with celebrities leads to them defending their grotesque fortunes as if they were their own. People seem to think that they are somehow included in the world of this ultra-rich elite.

Yea like the anti-vaccine movement (no offense if that's your position, but I consider to be a rather wacky and dangerous one.) Jenny McCarthy and Jim Carry, they have ZERO scientific knowledge, yet they got on T.V. and made baseless accusations saying that "vaccines cause autism." And millions of people now listen to them and take this pseudo-scientific nonsense as truth. It's sad.

Supply and Demand, people beg for it, there's no mystery. It's not like they put a gun to their head and made them watch it. The supply always comes after the demand. People eat sleep and think stupid, try this experiment. Be up front and bold with all your friends, then watch them no longer be your friend. Tell your fat friends, they are fat. Tell your dumb friends, they are dumb. Try ignoring mediocrity and watch how many friends you no longer have. Free will is a bitch!

As a Brit I also despair of how moronic our culture has become, and of how stupid a lot of people are. I have had to turn off from mainstream culture as I cannot tolerate it anymore. Constant adverts/ sponsorship messages, worshipping of 'celebrities', an expectation of being rich without possessing any talent, all encompassing consumerism, and television vomiting sewage at us 24hrs a day. The establishment is trying to dumb us down for a reason - they don't want people to question them!

we pay the cost for adding glamor to the body and faces of the media and entertainment industry, but that doesn't mean all of us, there are allot of people out there, it's nice to see the super support toward those artists who have a chance to live a different life and make a mark on time with loads of resourse, it is it's own thing. I rent movies and look on to the superficial world as it comes to me, I dought that it will repeat it's self, so like me others are curious to some how be apart.

Very well said man!! Starving people in the world makes me sick, especially when I know America is the number one country for Obesity. People in other countries are dieing of starvation and people in this country are dieing from eating too much...Whaahuuuu??

I'm gonna start by saying that I'm Canadian however all of this celebratarianism is because of the priveledge that we as western people are able to enjoy because of our culture. You should take into account to who watches this stuff. Its old people . The whole world doesn't hate our culture, it should be noted that there ARE a lot of shitty things going on in our culture. However we should highlight the things are the antithesis to this tacky pap we watch on the E channel.
