At least 400 hundred Rwandans and non-Rwandans gathered on Saturday 26 April in the Hague-based UN Court of Justice to talk of Peace in the Great Lakes Region. Despite a fierce opposition of the government of Rwanda and Tutsi diaspora organisations, the conference took place without any incident.

Paul Rusesabagina, the man who inspired the Hollowood Academy Award winning film Hotel Rwanda, addressed the public and informed them of the solutions his foundation is suggesting to heal Rwanda. I met him after the conference and asked him some questions.

  • People, Rusesabagina's family was not massacred. They survived the genocide. And one other thing, whenever a man is called a hero, everyone else starts to get jealous and accuse him of "getting more credit than he actually deserves." This man is a living legend, yet we bash and curse great legends. Same thing with MJ, everyone cursed him, and when he died, people remembered his greatness. Rusesabagina was a man with principles, but some people are too jealous to acknowledge that.

  • Paul Rusesabagena. Fucking brilliant man. Too bad there aren't more of him....

  • @Thomestecles You cannot compare MJ to Paul Rusesabagina, that is like comparing him to Mandella, MJ wrote some good msongs, then it all went wrong and he touched kids, his music was still good though. Paul Rusesabagina undoubtedly saved hundreds of lives through his actions, and he never touched no kids, the two are uncomparable, one is a true hero, the other touched kids and turned white cuase hes rascist...

  • Awesome man that helped and saved LOTS people. He is a living legend.

  • I encourage you all to read his autobiography, "An Ordinary Man", after watching the movie, to see events in his perspective. In the book, he mentioned that the violence in the movie was in fact "toned down", saying that no one would be able to stomach what he saw during the genocide if it was shown on big screen. It is humbling to know that there will always exist good men who stand up to what is right and courageously say "NO" to evil even in the darkest of days.

  • Long azz name. Longer living legend. Nothing but love

    Paul Rusesabagina - Oscar Schindler

I hope you and your family live a good , long and healthy life Paul.

  • I saw "Hotel Rwanda" I hope Paul Rusesabagina is getting all the respect and love he deserve!

  • I'm friends with his son, Tresor, and I know his family. He IS a hero and he is of the most humble men i've ever met. Those who have said things against this man have either no idea what they are talking about, or they have ulterior political motives. Kagme has made attempts on the lives of Paul and his family numerous times. All detractors claiming he has hijacked his heroism are false, as he is still an active participant in multiple Humanitarian Causes.
