This year I recorded the full song at our 4th of July Campfire. It always amuses me how everyone knows the chorus and most people know the first verse but as the song goes on very few people know the later verses and the song gets softer and softer.

This video was recorded at Rock Hill Girl Scout Camp.

Lyrics:

Chorus:
On the loose to climb a mountain, on the loose where I am free,
On the loose to live my life the way I think my life should be
For I've only got a moment and the world world yet to see
I'll be looking for tomorrow on the loose

Have you ever watched the sunrise turn the sky completely red?
Have you slept beneath the moon and stars, a pine bough for your bed?
Do you sit and talk with friends, though a word is never said?
Then you're just like me and you've been on the loose.

Chorus

There's a trail that I've been hiking just to see where it might go,
Many places left to visit, many people yet to know
For in following my dreams, I will live and I will grow,
In a world that's waiting out there on the loose.

Chorus

So in search of love and laughter I am travellin' 'cross this land
Never sure of where I'm going 'cause I haven't any plans,
And in time when you are ready, come and join me take my hand
And together we'll share life out on the loose

Chorus

As I sit and watch the sunset and the daylight slowly fades
I'll be thinking about tomorrow and the friendships that I've made
I will treasure them for always and I hope you'll do the same
And forever we'll share life out on the loose

Chorus

  • I'm glad everyone is enjoying my video. I don't the true origin of this song I just know we've sung it at my camp for a very long time. It may be sung with a different rhythm at other camps but the message of the song is the same and I love this song greatly.

  • @monamaxwell -I have this book and concur that it is a wonderful and beautiful book.

  • @FreakyBunnyGirl There was a book written by brothers in the late 60's I think called "One the Loose". I think it was by Terry and Renny Russel. It has beautiful pictures and words from their travels as they hitchhiked and traveled across America. One of the brothers drowned on the journey. It is a beautiful light read about living free and with passion.
