Homemade Oreo Cookies (via Smitten Kitchen)

I used Smitten Kitchen's recipe to make homemade oreos. It was incredibly easy and they taste so much better than the original ones we can buy at the store.

These look great! i love Smiten Kitchen recipes and her pictures are great but a video is very helpful. One question (i'm from europe) what is shortening? Is it vegetable fat?
