@gameICY The effect on the public water supply system in the scenario of a large-scale fire in an urban or metro setting, completely disabling firefighter access to water because of all the house systems going off, has been postulated if traditional systems were mandated in residential housing. Residential systems are fire control, not suppression. They are designed to control fire spread and protect egress until firefighters arrive, not put out the fire though they often do.

@GameICY Hence why no such mandate will ever pass imo. Chem agent, clean agent, or water mist systems are far superior solutions.

@GameICY bill still hasn't passed because it would be like buying a 747 to get free peanuts. Relativly few people die eavry year in residential fires compared to auto "accidents" or lung cancer. Plus the added cost to construction, maintinance, inspection and testing, infrastructure to support stand-by demand, insurance for mold and water damange all make a traditional water-based fire control solution severly impractical.

close the main shut-off on the riser or the valve at the street or the valve at the floor if its multistory, much easier.

I have actually installed a nipple and ball valve in the open position,in to a 1/2" outlet at springfield mall before with 90 lbs. of pressure behind it. My name is Ronnie Baker I worked at Va. sprinkler at the time,yes I am a sprinkler god!!

i hate sprinkler heads, this was a training class i took in 2008 in lumberton NC....and yes you are going to get wet regardless, but wedges suck especially when you picked them up you didnt realize they were broken haha

Many times the valve is behind a locked door. also even when off at the vavle all of the water, ( hundreds or thousand of gallons" the water in the rest of the system will drain, ruining stuff or making a bigger mess.
