It's approaching midnight and the driver of a Pacific National freight train lead by XR550 & XR554 has been waiting patiently for quite some time to get clearance to depart Dynon freight yards. Finally the clearance is given and they waste no time at all getting underway. However moments later as the train rounds the corner a vigilant safety worker notices this is a broad gauge train and no doubt running through his mind was the thought "the last thing we need is a repeat of the derailment from a few weeks ago...." The worker waves to the driver so he will stop, and as the driver drops the headlight to low beam you can see a nice shower of sparks coming off the brake shoes of the locos. A visual inspection of the points* is then made to ensure the correct path has been set for the broad gauge movement. Once everything is found to be in order the train is again cleared for departure.

*For the American viewers, "points" are "turnouts".
