Dr. Johnson continues the video series sitting at the YAG laser explaining the how it works. The Ellex Nd:YAG laser is FDA approved and is Dr. Johnson's choice for treating bothersome vitreous degenerative conditions of the eye commonly known as vitreous eye floaters. Dr. Johnson has an ophthalmology practice exclusively dedicated to treating eye floaters. Using the YAG laser is potentially an alternative to the surgical vitrectomy which involves removing most or all of the vitreous gel in the eye. Dr. Johnson discusses the pros and cons of the YAG laser. It is more commonly used in the front of the eye, and so treating further back where the floaters are involves different challenges - mostly with visualization of the floaters as well as delivering the energy safely and adequately.

  • What lens do you like to use for this treatment. I use a Karikhoff lens but would be interested in your preference.

  • @sgsafran My initial "go to" lens is a Peyman lens, but I use Karickhoff's lenses and occasionally a Goldmann lens as well. All depends on the location of the floaters and optics of the eye. Dr. Johnson

  • Is It Risky?..,

  • @Josescrewthat17 Go to my web site and read about the procedure. Likely your question is answered in detail there.

  • i'm almost 15 and i have one visible eyefloater on my left eye which can be seen by the laser. i just hope that it is in a good spot to shoot. 3 more years and i can finally do this procedure.

  • @UltraGamer457 Most patients under the age of 30-35 are not likely treatable. There are exceptions, but most of the successful treatment are for age related floaters.
