This was recorded at San Antonio's annual jazz festival, "Jazz'SAlive," on September 16, 2006. It was my third time as a headliner at the event. On this particular evening, I opened for internationally acclaimed Latin jazz great Eddie Palmieri. I recently found the DVD of the performance and thought I'd start sharing some of the clips I like best - even though I'm happy to report that I am 20 pounds lighter than I was back then! LOL! The band at this event is the same band that appears on my most recent CD, "I'll Take Romance": Morris Nelms, piano; Chuck Moses, bass; Kevin Hess, drums; Pierre Poree, alto saxophone. RECORDED BY MAVERICK VIDEO, SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS. RECORDING IS THE PROPERTY OF KEN SLAVIN.

Ken Slavin made it.
Three years ago the local jazz crooner was slated to open the main stage portion of the 20th annual Jazz'SAlive festival downtown in Travis Park. His set was canceled because of rain. It wasn't this year....."This is the premier jazz event in San Antonio," said KRTU music director Aaron Prado as Com Voce played bossa nova-based jazz on the Jefferson Street stage. "It's the one time of year people who aren't normally jazz fans are lured out by food and friends. It's the biggest opportunity of the year for jazz musicians to reach out to people who aren't necessarily jazz fans and maybe those people will support jazz elsewhere." And the Ken Slavin Quintet finally got to reach out from the main stage with a sharp set of vocal classics such as "Just In Time" and "Alright, Okay, You Win." This year, Slavin won.
I have included this song in my repertoire from the very beginning of my singing career 20 years ago.
According to Wikipedia, "Just in Time" is a popular song with the melody written by Jule Styne and the lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green. The song was published in 1956. The song was introduced by Judy Holliday and Sydney Chaplin in the musical 'Bells Are Ringing.' A very popular recording of the song was made by Tony Bennett, which was a hit that year. Decades later, Bennett recorded it with Michael Bublé as part of his very popular 2006 album Duets: An American Classic.
Hey, Ken! That was wonderful! Masterfully done! Bravo to you, and the band! 5 stars!!! :)

@singingkid Thank you, Greg! It's from a performance four years ago, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I'll be posting more songs from this show soon. Best, Ken
