QUEEN OF THE BLUES

Mamie is obviously the solo, with a "Swing" rhythm. I prefer Jazz without a singer. I love listening to the bands

I'm not such a fan of this... but it's alright....

Arguing if this is jazz or blues is like arguing the chicken and the egg story, listen to the blues and you'll hear some syncopated rhythms that influence jazz, in fact some old blues singers were probably playing jazz before the term hit main stream culture.

Dixieland jazz, as some call this is blues with a full complement of horns and some woodwinds (trombone, clarinet, trumpet, etc.), as well as a guitar, usually a piano, and banjos at times. (hell, they used all kinds of other instruments as well, mostly for rhythm enhancement...if you've been near New Orleans you know exactly what I'm talking about). Most retailers that offer any sizable musical choices group jazz and blues together, or right next to each other, jazz ideas came from blues.

And while the subject of blues lyrics has most often concerned romance or raw sex, blues songs have addressed virtually ANY subject. There is a woman jazz group that writes about all kinds of issues impacting their lives, from housework to menopause.

Someone posted that jazz and blues are the same. Certainly, JAZZ evolved from blues. Yet, they are not equivalent. Blues has a definitive chord structure and is much simpler than jazz which has continued to evolve STRUCTURALLY. Ask any bebop jazz musician if it's the same as blues.

@ciaraahen Well said.

For all of you that are confused, jazz and blues are essetially the same thin. The only thing that seperates the two is that blues is about the emotions of love. It's like an aria and a recitative! If any of you know what that it!
i love that picture, how the band is all freaking out and mamie is just chilling and looking cool
