Germany could not produce nearly as many tanks as the russians and americans and they needed a large technological advantage to compensate for their lack of numbers.
Even if they concentrated on making PzIVs they would still be overwhelmed.

in My city,in Italy we have 4 shermans and 1 amphibiam sherman model(fishing in naples gulf) now in perfect condition.one of this is used in "la vita è bella",an italian film.
check pianadelleorme.it for shermans,tiger and other 5000 ww2 military trucs,tank,cannons,bike ecc ecc

Who cares they were outnumbered? If and only if they were so excessivly superior that would not have mattered. it just proves that superior technology is one piece of the picture. but it is not everything.
