A clip of Tiger Woods from the first round of the 2000 British Open at S:t Andrews. Footage taken from "The official film of the 129th Open Championship"
The Open at St Andrews is the ultimate major....just ask Jack Nicklaus...he said to be an all time great you have to win an Open at the home of golf....The course is not all tricked up like at the US Open.....and all British Opens are played on links courses...the wind changes all day long...it really challenges the players.
I am going to St Andrews tomorrow for the week, I went there in 2000, hoping for a different winner this time...
@dandydude123xyz Not to americans. ANY american golfer will say that the green jacket is the dream all us junior golfers pretend to be putting for the win on the practice greens.
some may shoot 16 under, but if you can shoot 17 you win, just because the US Open plays a lower score means nothing. If it's an easy course, it's an easy course for eveyone.
Thats what makes a links course hard- the weather. And it is going to be windy on a links course 9 times out of 10. If a course like Torrey Pines was put by the sea in Britain it would be impossible.
surly it doesn't matter - its the same for everyone so the sence of competition is identical, plus the british open is easily the most important major, followed by the masters
Id much rather win the US Open but I am American that probably has something to do with it. Also I think it would be more of an accomplishment since it is more challenging.
@quasiphatpaul No thats what some golfers do to try do emulate what they cannot themselves..Im a american
