I used to leave the bacon in..and I also used peppered bacon! Mmm so tasty! Don't forget the hot sauce!

my mom always made cabbage this way in Eastern KY. It was one of my dad's most favorite things along with southern cornbread (not sweet). They grew up and lived very poorly but always had plenty to eat, thanks to a big garden, chickens and a hog to butcher, mom's meals were so much like what you find at Cracker Barrel and sooo soooo good. Looking back they had more friends and company than anyone I have ever known...mom could whip a meal together in no time at all.. I miss those days.

does the cabbage loose flavour if you boil it and fry it later? does the taste change a lot?

As you can see from the video, I am no cook! HaHa! I would imagine it would lose flavor if you boiled it then fried it later.
